Shiller Group partners with Rosemont's White Roof Program
Inspired by our commitment to continuously improve our community, Shiller Group partnered with Rosemont-Petite Patrie’s White Roof Program. The program, spearheaded by the borough’s mayor, François Croteau aims to help curb climate change through creating eco-friendly roofing.
The initiative replaces non-reflective dark roofing materials with white solar reflective paint. This change helping to reduce the amount of heat that is absorbed into the buildings, immediately decreasing the temperature inside and out, reducing the intensity of air pollution caused by heat, and decreasing the amount of energy used for cooling.
This simple solution significantly decreases carbon emissions, reduces risks of ‘brown outs’ caused by stress on the power grid, saves on energy costs, and can even save lives.
A roof covered with solar-reflective white paint reflects up to 90% of sunlight as opposed to 20% reflected by a traditional black roof.
On a 90°F day, a black roof can be 180°F while a white roof is 100°F, reducing cooling costs up to 40%.
Around 1000 Montreal residents die prematurely each year due to extreme heat and air pollution. The temperature drop from white roofs helps alleviate both these problems.
Shiller Group is proud to support this important environmental initiative.
